The 5 main Food Groups are:
· Protein
In order to stay healthy, we need to include foods from each of these groups in our daily diet; in the following quantities:
· 1/3rd Carbohydrates
· 1/3rd Fruit and Vegetables
· 1/3rd from the other 3 Food Groups
Out of the 5 food groups, 3 provide the body with energy that it can use:
1 gram of carbohydrates supplies the body with 4 calories
1 gram of protein supplies the body with 4 calories
1 gram of fat supplies the body with 9 calories.
